Noob question about chmod 777 and 775 : rlinux4noobs

chmod 777 You can type chmod 777, leave a space after it, and then drag the file or folder from Finder into Terminal. Terminal will fill in the correct path for you.. chmod 777 foldername will give read, write, and execute permissions for everyone. chmod 700 foldername will give read, write, and execute

platinum777, I'm trying to change the permissions of temp_dir to 777. Why are these commands not accomplishing that? I'm using Linux by the way..
